Dear Forumers,
I have enjoyed reading on this forum for a long time and this is my first post on the Purists Breguet forum.
I was recently in the Breguet boutique in NY and I must tell you, it was just spectacular! To be able to sit there and admire the Jaquet Droz "Ben Frankiln" and to be surrounded by some of the finest and most beautiful timepieces available was truly a wonderful experience!
Firstly, any model I asked for, in any case metal is available for inspection - Just remarkable and unbelieveable!
I truly have a love for the Breguet History and for what the Swatch group has done with Blancpain and GO and is doing with Breguet. I currently own a Aeronavale which was my "first real watch" in my opinion.
I want to buy my first "Classic" Breguet and really admire the 3680 Regulator and the new 5207 Double Retrograde (power reserve and seconds indicators). I want the watch I buy to be in the classic style and not a "novelty" watch but I feel that with the two choices I have selected I am falling into a trap.
The regulator dial really moves me - the paterns are truly exquisit and the date hand is truly unique - Any information about the movement caliber from Lemania would be appreciated (breguet 591Dr)-
The Retrograde 5207 - what a beautiful watch - Thicker case than the Regulator, beautiful dial and hands - the off-center time dial is rather unique and the Salesperson in the Breguet Boutique informed me that this watch was modeled directly from an early pocketwatch made by A.L. Breguet. (I was also told that I was the first person to try on the watch in teh store - a treat for me!)
The Retrograde has a saphire caseback and looks to be finished in the highest degree - Any information about the movement as well would be appreciated (Breguet 516DrSr)-
Now, the question is which to buy??? (Or do I go for a 40mm Classique??) Your thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated as I want this next purchase to be it for a while. A purchase that has been well thought out and has recieved much reflection and care.
Sincerely,
asg
