Breguet

Breguet 3807 ‘Aeronavale’ returns home

Just back from a full service at Breguet.

The way I got my first- and now my next XX is may be a funny story, that I love to share with you.

t was, I think 1998, when I passed ‘Les Ambassadeurs' at Rue du Rhone in Geneva, where I saw a Breguet XX for the first time.
When I went in the shop to see the watch, there was actually no way back anymore; the bracelet of the watch,
the clean and clear black face and the domed crystal, this watch had all the details that I liked to see in a sports watch.
So we went home together and the watch was my travel companion for many years.

But then Cartier released in 2006 the Tank Mono Poussoir in a LE of just 100pc and when I found out that it was not just
a new model, but a re-release of the historic model from 1928, I knew that I had to act fact,
this was not a LE of 1000 pieces like other brands call a limited edition, no this was really limited.
So something had to go in my collection, to help finance the Tank Mono Poussoir and the beloved XX  was the one, that was easy to sell.
Now, about 12 years later, yes I am not 22, I noticed a bit of buyers remorse and missed my black dialed XX,
but buying again, a new or second hand XX, as I had, was a bit too silly.
So I kept looking at the gorgeous pictures of the Limited Edition with blue dial, that Nicolas posted, long time ago.
That was definitely the one that could replace my first XX, without loosing face towards myself.
This was such a different watch that still had all the details of a XX.

Last August I finally found this one, the 3807, in good shape, but the movement needed badly a full service and that was done at Breguet.
Must say that they did a marvellous job and I am glad to have the watch back.
For me this is the most attractive Flyer with the best bracelet, a sports watch can have, because a bracelet without clasp, blind closure
and not these silly pushers to open the bracelet, looks so marvellous.

Now don’t ask me which version I prefer, the black dialed one or this blue version, since I simply don’t know.
The black is of course much more historic and more sporty, the blue is rare, more chic and has a gorgeous changing colour
that has not much to do with the original model, but makes it just a stunning XX.
