Wow, exact match

I think this matches the item Ref: 9294 on the information you posted.

I bought the watch in 1968 from a friend of my father-in-law (Jack), who just happened to be in the house, when I arrived grumbling about having just fallen over destroying my wrist watch.

He took this off his own wrist and dangled it in front of me saying 'how about this, will this do?'.  Oooh said I, very nicely, but swallowed hard when he said how much, being around twice what I would have expected to pay for a new 'normal every-day' watch.

I never thought the watch was particularly special, although it always kept perfect time and never went wrong, despite being on my wrist for most of my life, only being absent for a spell during the 80's when I flirted with a digital.

Many years later, thirty-eight to be exact, I was thinking that as I was about to retire, I might treat myself to a Rolex and going on line to check models and prices, I happened to notice on the site selected that in the manufacturer's column was the name Blancpain, so, out of curiosity I selected this and to my amazement discovered I already had a decent watch. It was only at this point I realised what the watch was actually worth all those years ago and that I had given Jack only a fraction of its true value!   I felt awful.

In 2008 we were down in Devon and I made a detour to visit Jack's widow and related this story to her which made her laugh. She explained that this 'typical Jack' and that I should enjoy the watch and the memory.
