Car Parts shortage...

Jan 08, 2023,23:34 PM

There was a real shortage of car parts. Yet, if you look at more expensive cars (like Porsche and up) there was no shortage... Car companies are organized by groups. VW AG for instance. VW will generally allocate a larger share of the in-demand parts to brands like Porsche because Porsche's vehicles are more profitable. Porsche is typically a 270,000+ unit a year brand before the Pandemic. And I would say in 2022, it's probably now a low 300,000 unit a year brand. A client may ask a salesperson at Porsche, "why don't you have any cars available?" And a salesperson at Porsche might incorrectly say to a client "parts shortage" when the real reason is "higher than normal demand." Clients are also lead to believe that Porsche's production might even be lower than normal due to sales people saying "parts shortage" when that's actually not the case.

Titanium Bracelet Shortage Cause of Russia?

 By: K-Lo : January 8th, 2023-01:36
Hello, Hoping your weekend is treating you well. I was in a BlancPain boutique this past week to try to get the new light grey nato for my Mokarran, they don’t have it, but that’s besides the point of the post. So I asked the sales associate why there are...

Yes, but…

 By: Ted O : January 8th, 2023-01:53
… it has centered mainly around the Aerospace industry — reporting currently facing a titanium supply shortage after international sanctions were placed on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine. So perhaps spilling over to other industries.

Not an economist...

...but I would think that it is available but at a price. Maybe too high for Blancpain to sell at a premium...

Yes...there are probably many reasons that titanium is scarce these days...

 By: mdg : January 8th, 2023-20:46
...and therefore pricey. Blancpain could keep making Ti watches, but might not be able to sell them at a profit. The easy way would be to float the idea of a limited edition and price it to cover the cost of materials. Knowing you have sold out in advance...

Interesting comment…

Had a titanium watch and didn’t care for it for two reasons…it scratched easily and didn’t “feel” right but could never pinpoint why…I own steel and ceramic and they both feel fine.

I think it may depend on the grade…

The Tissot ti I had years ago was one giant scratch 😂

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣

I had a Seamster 300 in titanium blue dial, did seem to get scratches too.

A salesperson is the last man on earth I'd trust...

A watch salesperson I wouldn't even trust if he tells me the time , And I don't think they are informed of anything regarding of supply chain, manufacturing or logistics issues.... That aside, the Ti 50 Fathoms was never in such a demand, and maybe they d...

Generally... This isn't really applicable to the luxury industry...

 By: patrick_y : January 8th, 2023-06:55
The luxury industry isn't too concerned with the inflation of materials commodities - as it's relatively a small percentage of the cost to produce a luxury good product. So I'd be surprised if this is a major contributor to the situation. If this situatio...

resources can be won at many places

 By: Weems@8 : January 8th, 2023-09:33
The country i do not want to know and name is not the country who own all resources every country want to import. Maybe there are other countries who can export the metals for producing titanium. Same with gold. Watch houses who needs gold for their watch...

Not really.

 By: MilDiver : January 9th, 2023-10:14
I tried this specific one on the bracelet. It feels weird almost wrong. My usual preference is for a bracelet but I find watches with wide (and thick) straps like Panerai or this, to be much more comfortable with the strap. its the spread of the weight on...

First, claim supply shortage and then raise prices. As they say, never let a problem go to waste.

Ha! Could work, BlancPain doesn't seem to sell many watches, I think, I was the only person in the store for like 45 minutes and 5th Ave was super busy outside.

 By: K-Lo : January 8th, 2023-20:03
Maybe sell each watch as high in price as possible? Honestly, I don't know, I don't even know how they keep the 5th Ave store open. Likely rent is expensive and I don't see them selling many watches there....

Titanium bracelets were rare in boutiques even before the sanctions

 By: Fastwong : January 8th, 2023-18:19
Sounds like a manufactured excuse but legitimate scarcity / high demand within Blancpain. I wouldn't be surprised is China is taking up a majority of the titanium bracelets. FYI, China is the biggest source for titanium I think by a large margin so there ...

Oh nice! about the future release! I really do like the 42mm size....

 By: K-Lo : January 8th, 2023-20:08
I had the Mil-Spec on a bracelet but the 40.5 felt a tad bit too small for me, and their 45 is too big. 43.5 wears quite well on me, re my Mokarran, so if they do a 42mm in titanium, on a bracelet, I may be broke for a couple of years.. And yeah, the bout...
