Aggressive impulse buy

Jan 01, 2021,00:03 AM

It’s always been my grail.  But I’ve never given it much thought.  It was a little too big.  The standard hesitations all rang true with me.  Blancpain inscription on the case, high polish, date window.  Most importantly, I couldn’t afford it.

But I got an email at 10:47am on a Tuesday and saw it.  It was clearly an exploding offer.

I justified the purchase by telling myself I could at worst return it and at best sell it for a profit.  The latter option was extremely important to the self justification process but also made me feel a bit dirty.

After receiving it yesterday I now find myself in the position of a different but more real existential dilemma.  It is on my wrist and it is not going anywhere.  I took off the original nato strap and put a random strap on it as I wanted the original strap to be completely unworn.  I used a wooden toothpick, an added benefit of drilled lugs, so as not to damage the case.

It’s an absurd little thing that was very well made.  I like it.

It’s a valuable thing and a rare thing.  It’s a cool thing. It’s a silly thing.

I look forward to handling it down to my children.

Ps: all reasonable offers considered

Sorry for any disrespect

I know I’m new but let me be clear. The ps- all reasonable offers considered was a poor attempt at humor. Please re read it with that in mind. It is not and will not be for sale. The point was, it’s the nicest watch I’ve ever bought, I like it, I still ha...

I kinda felt strange when he wrote the “PS” below. It was contradictory to his post. Strange post. I wonder what the true intention is, was it a review or was it a discreet offer to sell?

The intention was humor.

I’m sorry again for any confusion. I love the watch. It was not a discrete offer to sell. The post was meant to be a love letter to the watch and the PS was purely tongue in cheek.

What you described is pure “horological infatuation” much like a guy who shows up to a girls place every night to play the guitar for her. It is beautiful, this piece.

If I had this piece, I’d keep it a couple of years to see if I like it. Honestly, watch condition is over-rated when selling pieces, just as long as you do not ding the piece. Have a good one!

That strap was made for this watch.

It seems this one was very close to the perfection many people had been waiting for.

Congrats on your new acquisition. There seems to have been several acquired by members here, and some fantastic wrist shots shared which show me a watch even more appealing than I first thought when I saw it first last week. Also I think all of us underst...

Like you, I've always loved the FF but couldn't quite pull the trigger -- size, price, boldness, a few extra details. This one checks all the boxes -- beautiful execution. But, unlike you, I still held back. As you say, it's not inexpensive. But it is bea...

I’ve reread your post... seems like a sales post still... explaining that you used a toothpick not to damage the case... plus the PS. Either way. Enjoy in good health. If you sell it so be it, to each their own. Hope to see some more pics of your collecti...

It wasn’t a sales post. I guess you’ll have to believe me. As you can see it is more expensive than the rest of my collection combined. I was excited and had just decided there is no way I’m ever selling it and really, I was just trying to keep it fun. Ch...
