We've many IKEA fans here; anyone care to build your next car?
Jun 23, 2021,20:04 PM
Since electric vehicles (especially in the city) are much simpler than internal combustion vehicles,
a young man named Ryan Schlotthauer (designer/student) in Los Angeles, came up with this concept for a flat-pack car that could be assembled at home.
The idea was sent to me by my friend Chris, who taught Automotive Design for many years at Coventry University, in the UK. And who has done several whole-house remodels using lots of IKEA kits.
Conceptually, it seems TOO simple to me. But what do I know?
After searching, we discovered a more-in-depth explanation on a site built by Ryan. Excerpts are shown here, but the real content (probably his term presentation) is
HERE ON THIS SITE
Then Chris remembered a concept from the Fifties called the Dornier Delta -- a project he reviewed during HIS student days back in the Seventies.
Let's hope the flat-pack car is truly simple, because the 2CV, one of the world's simplest cars, is VERY COMPLEX when you have to rebuild it in the driveway.
Would you build and drive a flat-pack car? Even if it was just a local road, low-speed golf cart? As shown here by the Ford THINK! (I know Ford just bought it) and the Chrysler GEM

On the subject of the car -my wife would divorce me if I showed up at home driving something like that. She will most likely agree to a motorcycle first before this.
