M5 F10 Competition ~ A short review

I had this car until last year. Owned for 6 years. Possibly the best all round car I have had the pleasure of owning.

Very understated for the 575 bhp going through the rear wheels. As the competition version, this had a sports exhaust and the ride height was 10mm lower. The sound of 575 horses was like a symphony.

Reliability was perfect. 60,000 miles without any problems.

The power plant was the S63 twin turbo charged V8. Essentially a 400 bhp unit with two twin scroll turbos bolted on. The gearbox was also just right for this car. Lazy when pootling around and ferocious when you pressed the red M buttons.

Scary in the wet as the power delivery was instant and not particularly linear; but you got used to it. I had some fun at the traffic lights, as to most it’s looked like a 520d.

If you wanted a 2 ton car for drifting this was it. With practice and in the dry, you could drive this at the limit and it would warn you when the rear was about to slide.

It could seat 5 folks in comfort and had a cavernous boot. Fuel economy was surprisingly good if driven with care. 30 mpg on a long run. 10 mpg if you were driving after a bank robbery.

The suspension was perfect. The interior while aging was functional and this era of BMW had the best looking steering wheel in my opinion. Mine had a black leather interior with Matt aluminium trim.

The head up display was also wonderful.

The audio was provided by Harman Kardon which was superb for 2014.

Gone but never forgotten.
