I had the C 70 convertible on the photo for about 2 years. The design of the car was eyecatching indeed and it was a beautiful large convertible. But driving it was not such a pleasure. The 5 cylinder turbo with 200hp was relatively boring and had a very high fuel consumption even when just cruising at low speed. As the engine was mounted transversely the car had a horribly large turning circle. Enginge and gearbox were placed over the front axle so it was too heavy in the front which also caused suspension problems and any road irregularity was directly submitted to the driver in form of severe vibration. Possibly in the convertible more than in the coupe. All in all a weird beauty a real viking dragon boat. I changed it to a 9-3 Saab convertible which is pure driving pleasure in all aspects. Strange enough that Volvo survived in the car market but Saab not.

The most beautiful and classy Volvo after the P 1800?

For me, this is the C 70 first generation. There is something very British in this car, other than the fact that the T5 was made in collaboration with TWR. This is a car I owned for three years, and that I loved a lot. I let it go because it was too big, ...

Was in love with it in the late 90-ies. Came close to buying one (silver exterior/twotone black-grey leather interior) in those days. Could very well be nr. 2 after the P1800. I do think however it’s got strong competition from the 262C. A truly wonderful...

Here is David Bowie's 262C.

for showing it. That’s the one indeed. A tasteful alternative for gentleman driver’s in those days. A pricey one as well

Didn’t express myself

well enough, Nicolas. I meant it’s price in the late seventies. A Volvo 262C costed as much as a Mercedes S450 SE (W116) in 1977 (German prices).
