Royal Oak Tour Auto

Lately my daily knock-around is the AP Royal Oak Tour Auto, a piece I won luckily at a special auction hosted by Phillips two months ago to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the iconic line.

The watch, bearing the reference 26136ST, is a stainless steel model with a wearable 39mm diameter. It was presented by Audemars Piguet (as the official time-keeper) in a limited edition of 50 pieces in 2007 for Tour Auto - a 5-day race starting in Paris featuring historic cars.

Allow me to quote directly from the auction catalogue as I cannot find a better description:

"The perforated leather strap is reminiscent of car upholstery from that era. The white dial, fitted with black counters, evokes the colors of the checkered flag"

The box was developed in collaboration with MOTUL and represents an authentic 300V oil can - indeed very innovative packaging.

Here is a picture I have borrowed from the auction catalogue:

Another picture showing the oil can in the background

Finally, a wrist shot

I love the contrast with the red hands, don't you?

I have been drawn to the piece ever since I saw the picture, and have been hunting for it for over ten years....

That's a fine looking ROC!

... This is when AP was pure class and not chasing sales via a celebrity/gauche strategy. A gentleman member here had a similar platinum version which is still my dream watch. Congratulations on this stunning, glorious wonderful piece.

Wow. Thank you

Would love to see the watch in PT one day....

I always loved this model. It was the inspiration for the "ROC Racer"

I don't have the watch, but still the straps (along with a ROC rubber). ...

Gorgeous piece
