Non-hornback, or non-AP
Hi Craig,
I think you are right about the metal inserts - I've seen them in a number of watch straps that have multiple lugs.
You could investigate a non-AP strap that could be pre-formed to curve down when it leaves the watch case, resolving that issue of the protruding strap.
Or just go for the softest one that is most likely to follow the curve of your wrist.
Not the best answer, but ...
