My preference is the rubber one but certainly would try.

Do it, for sure. And maybe try the QEII strap at some point.

I would wait after the summer... Hot weather and humidity does not go well with leather, especially one as expensive as the ap

I like it with the rubber strap, leather for the winter, but that watch is going to look nice even with a pink suede strap on it. Vte
You should also consider..
the grey horn back, like the one on the elephant. I like that combo and it's more comfortable than it looks.
