Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Off Shore Juan Pablo Montoya...
A blast from the Past.
If I remember well, the Juan Pablo Montoya ROO was unveiled in 2004.
It was love at first sight for me.
The elements of design borrowed to the racing universe were as interesting as they were appealing.
My favorite ROO, with the Orchard Road for different reasons, of course, as the Orchard Road used a tantalum case and a rubber bezel, and I am a big fan of tantalum case.
But both the JPM and the Orchard Road shared something: An extreme coolness.
Titanium, limited to 1000 pieces, my favorite:
Rose Gold, limited to 500 pieces:
And platinum, limited to 100 pieces, with a sublime blue dial but the weight of a " dead donkey "...
Sadly, the reason why I let it go is that it never sit on my wrist. I loved the strap a lot, but the size of the strap didn't work well for me. A pity. A heart breaker.

This piece, a 44mm or 42mm like RB2? Actually I have been offered this piece after I bought my RB2 but with a white dial, doesn't look right. However I love the carbon fiber dial and the pushers.
I measured it, its a 42mm
That's great to know, in line with RB2, both use square pushers, in a 42mm. That's why I got to have this JPM...
Maybe you can revisit it again but this time with the tang buckle

AP is making the ROO
straps made-to-measurement and they cost the same as standard straps. Furthermore, they are taking the measurements at least in the service centres and it's possible to order the strap through them. In general people do not use enough the bespoken straps ...
What a great shot of the titanium!
I was always impressed seeing the titanium version. It is seriously undervalued considering its unique design. I also loved the spider-web-like strap. Thanks for sharing Nicolas!
The originality of this one trumps all other Offshores.
I have written about it before; the Montoya really broke the box and opened up the avenues for future Offshores. Do I prefer it to the Rubens Barrichello II? No. But I fully admit the Montoya is the one that deserves the credit for paving the way.
I have been offered this watch, so MichaelC, should I go for it?
I inspected the watch and it looks good too, but nowhere near as good as the RB2. What's your recommendation on this? BTW, the RB2 will undergo full service and refit the caseback.

I would say definitely, get it. You can always have an AP Service Center give it some love if needed. I think for a collector to own both pieces is very significant. And it will look very different on your wrist compared to the RB2, so both would get lots...
MichaelC, absolutely right
I am trading my Pam 507 and Hublot to get Montoya next week, and will post it once in hand. I believe having an extra AP will add more wear time than the other two...
