A Unique Royal Oak - The Hour Glass Limited Edition

Oct 30, 2015,10:28 AM

Had a chance to try on this new Royal Oak Extra Thin "The Hour Glass" Limited Edition (THG LE). The unusual combo of YG case and a dark green tapisserie dial is very unique and attractive in my eyes. As usual, the seemingly simple watch has quite a few intriguing details that are worth sharing here.

This is the first time a tapisserie dial is dressed in green. The green changes its shades depending on the ambient light, from green to almost black... like a chameleon!

The 21K gold rotor of the venerable 2121 calibre bears "The Hour Glass" insignia to emphasise its uniqueness

On the wrist, the YG case commands a lot of wrist presence due to the bright metal as well as the excellent finishing.

Comparing to the regular production Royal Oak Extra Thin in RG, the THG LE is much more glaring and attention-seeking. It is definitely a special-occasion-watch to me. Perhaps that's the main purpose of this LE smile

Hope you enjoy this brief sharing. Enjoy the weekend! smile

Best,
Wayne

I had the same thought - what a great special occasion piece. And destined to be a very rare edition of this reference. Thanks Wayne.

Looks great

I may be mistaken, but I think the first green dial tapisserie may have been in the early 1990s RO date models (14800 and 66800) - those were also yellow gold. It's so great to see this colour combination back.

Yes, I like this colour combo...
