Audemars Piguet

A little late to the party, but here are my guesses, Thomas

Before I begin, I just wanted to thank you and the friendly folks at AP for giving us a sneak preview of one of their upcoming releases.

Ok, so here goes!!!

1. Three unique design elements: The chrono minute counter with its sunburst like guillochage, the angular hour markers and the blade hour & minute hands with both brushed and polished surfaces.

2. Design inspirations: For one, a jet engine for the chrono minute counter, and secondly, in the solar system for having made each of the subdials in a different color and forms, like in the different planets.

I am going to elaborate a little on why I chose to name the solar system as an inspiration. You see, recent AP ROO's (excluding the one's for celebrities or sportmans) have had some sort of relationship from the Earth's elements, those that comprise it, and better yet, how to survive in it. You have fire with the Volcano, water with the Navy, animals with the Safari, extreme conditions with the Survivor, and poison with the Bumblebee. (Poison in a good way, much like the connotation the phrase "spreading the virus" holds in watch collecting). So, having said that, what else would be left to portray? By the array of colors, shapes, and depths, I turned my head to the solar system, our universe as the next step. Underwater life would have been another good call, but the presence of what appears to be a tachymetric scale in the inner bezel made me discard that idea. Perhaps a rotating bezel or pulsometer for that one sometime in the future?

3. For the new name, I am going to go with AP ROO Galaxia

4. I predict the case/bezel material will be: Case in titanium, and bezel in ceramic, with other variations including cases in platinum, carbon, and red gold. The bezel, I believe it will remain constant in ceramic.

5. Two abstract design concepts: For the first one, I am going to go with the slanted waffle pattern dial, which gives way to a tridimentional shape and changes its perceived depth depending on the angle at which one is looking at the dial.

The second one I am going to go with the chrono minute counter as it captivates you in an effect of infinite and free flowing time.

Examples I found of the concepts applied in the design of this watch range from anywhere from architecture, cars, and even food. Here are some examples.
