Me & AP it seems have struggled to get along too well in the past!.I have tried but not quite hit the spot with them, until now.
First off I got hold of a T3 ( white Face ), loved the look of the watch, but it was just too big after a while so sent it off to a new home.
Second Montoya...thought the carbon fibre on the bezel looked a bit 'stuck on'..was very white on the face & not that easy to tell the time on..had to go!
Thrid up rubens barri 2, nice watch, just a bit overally fussy on the dial after a while for me...but this is the one I would of kept out of all of them, ahd a good trade not come along
ROO safari next, liked this one, but just cannot get on with the the little plastic buttons for stop /start on the chrono, numbers on the dial a bit big for me also
Carbon aLinghi next...the alinghi 'swirl' started to annoy me a bit!
Anyway been looking at getting back to an AP for ages, but nothing has floated my boat, the grand prix's are a bit gaudy for my taste, and the ROO chrono's i just cannot get on with the 'buttons' they are just a bit secondary looking to me. The closest I came was the survivor, like the watch, the dial but just cannot get on with the chrono button guards, just way too big.
So when I saw the new 2011 AP Roo's I thought at last just what I am after, nice new proper chrono buttons, simple dial, no numbers, red accents, not too big at 44mm...just what I had been waiting for..and they now have the transparent back, I always like to be able to see a movement. Then to cap it off they also do a carbon cased model, that is something I really liked in the Alinghi, ... suits the watch in the same way titanium suits a richard mille, or platinum suits a Patek etc, AP for me shouts carbon...again all the above is just an explanation of my tastes, I do not wish to offend anyone who owns any pieces I mention, I just talk through it so you can understand why the ROO carbon is the first time AP has ticked all my boxes!
Anyway did indeed purchase one, and have taken a few snaps on the Iphone, not seen many pics yet, would like to see some real life pics of the titanium version as I was very heavily torn between that one & the carbon, the gold one was a bit bling for me, so not a problem there!.
Really liking the 'build' quality on this watch, the hour markers, hands etc all seem really nicely finished, the hour markers adding a bit of subtle 'twinkle' to the overall blackness. I would be interested to see this carbon version with a white face similar to the tit version, but I dont think AP make one, dont know if they have any plans to do so either...anyway without further ado my pics...
