Independents

I remember more than a few times people have asked about the "accuracy" of Dufour watches.

I have, in the past, just commented that "I recall they kept very good time."

This applied to all models - the Duality, the Simplicity and the Petite et Grande Sonnerie.

Well, this is PuristSPro, afterall, not just ANY community of watch nuts and self-proclaimed experts (we're not experts at all, we just love watches) soooooo...

background: (this was posted on HOME a few days ago) -

Watches are not machines, they have personality and tempers!

So a few weeks ago, my heart skipped more than a few beats when one of my "babies" decided to throw a hissy fit

http://www.network54.com/Forum/169624/message/1171908138/

So far, the watch in question has "locked up" once, since; right before the 9 o'clock hour...sigh...but otherwise, up to and including this 12 o'clock hour, been ticking along and ding donging merrily...whew!

So who said these wonderful obssessions that only fellow PuristS can understand and commiserate, are just lifeless, predictable amalgamations of springs and gears and precious unobtainium metal?  They have personality, and they definitely can be excruciatingly naughty, with personalities of their own...

A few days ago, a couple of "family members" who have been away for a few years just returned home, one to stay, and one probably just visiting...

Well, of course, old family rivalries never go away, and discussion around the family dining table start, about just who is the most beautiful / most complicated / most sublime / most wearable / best dressed / best finished; and of course, the most horologically important question, most accurate.

Now, wouldn't you know it, the sibling who never went away decides to throw a temper tantrum - plus 20 minutes in less than a day!!!!

grrrrr...

Okay, so I stop it by a little backpressure on the gear train (very light backward pressure on the pulled out crown) and wait for the seconds to synch up, then let them go again.  An hour later, already several seconds off...WHAT IS GOING ON?  (okay, it did go through the airport X-ray machine the previous night, but that hasn't bothered it before...magnetized hairspring? two twisted coils of the hairspring?  aargh!)

What to do, what to do?

Well, each day is another day, another chance for things to get right (or go further wrong!)...well, now in 3 hours, she (and yes, she's definitely a SHE!) is minus 3 seconds...better than plus 20 minutes a day, but certainly not the way she was raised and taken care of!

Moral of the story -

PuristS, don't let your watches get jealous, even of their own siblings, created by the same "Master Watchmaker;"

and don't keep them locked up, let them come out to play, everyday!
