A. Lange & Söhne

There was a big debate at the Akademie about this model..

 

... with Mr. Bobe.

1. Now that the design proportion of the dial is the same, there are now Lange 1 large and Lange 1 small.
2. Such single barrel technology must be adapted to Lange 1, although it was denied.  So, the famous "Doppelfederhaus" print will be gone and eventually Lange 1 and Grand Lange 1 will be the same watch with the difference of just the size.
3. We all like or agree with the new dial design, but were afraid the current Lange 1 will be terminated due to "bigger the better" trend......

I agree that the in-house hair spring will make a bit of a difference.  But "double barrel" and that "thickness vs size" were the "trademark" of THE Lange 1, and I do not like the new one (I didn't like the old one, either, anyway), sorry to say.  Yes, YMMV.  But no one in the room preferred the bigger Lange 1, FWIW.  Maybe Japanese have smaller wrists smile

... I am afraid to say. It is too big to be so flat, in simple words. The former model was actually quite good: big nad thick, as the name is suggesting. Some very, very nice shots from a very pretty rose gold model in your post! Best Moritz

I think that the slenderness of its case is the biggest asset of this watch. It is of course a matter of taste! Fx ...  

Let us agree on: it is a Grand Lange 1 light ...

Light as it does not come across heavy, like the first Grand 1, but still it is big. The thiness is not really making too much of a difference here. To me it does not look like a Lange 1 anymore as the bezel appears to be slimmer. I have not measured it b...

The bezel is slimmer than the old Grand Lange 1, as well as the regular Lange 1 (proportion wise). Slimmer bezel, and slimmer thickness - well balanced? In a way, maybe.... But I still prefer the regular Lange 1 size and proportion. Of course, YMMV. Ken ...

The dial is exactly the same in terms of placement etc (but not text) as the original Lange 1, which I like. But as was already noted the case proportions are very different, it's slimmer with shorter lugs. Suffice to say I very much prefer the old Lange ...
