Saxonia Thin - Black Gold Flux

Dec 07, 2020,15:57 PM

In addition to the new Saxonia date, we have a new Saxonia thin - Black Gold Flux.

Beautiful, yet very dressy piece. In a world where there are very few black tie events for now...so perhaps an aspirational piece in that regard.

I wish it were somewhat smaller...even 38 or 39 mm would be better. 40mm and 6.2mm thick is approaching pancake proportions. But it looks proportional and good in pictures.

Stunning dial. More masculine than the 39mm blue dialed version. Standard Lange hand wound movement.

Is ALS spinning their wheels?

Yes, they released some nice models recently, but they were limited.

"Limited" as in limited editions?

 By: vitalsigns : December 7th, 2020-16:55
I think these limited editions are designed to strengthen brand equity. Can't fault Lange for that, even if as consumers it is not always a good result.

Unless you're rich or connected it's pointless...

 By: mdg : December 7th, 2020-17:59
...ooh...look at that great thing I can't afford. And if I can afford it I can't have it. Their standard line is getting a bit stale...

Quite interestingly

 By: sham1 : December 7th, 2020-17:01
there is a photo of the movement but not one of the case back because if there was one it would show that the movement would be better suited to a 37 or 38mm case rather than a 40mm case.

Agreed. I don't know why they made that choice...

 By: BigFatPauli : December 7th, 2020-17:59
I love the copper blue but the 40mm case turned me off. At 37mm it would have been a home run in my eyes.

I am not so sure!

 By: sham1 : December 8th, 2020-05:15
There are quite a number of Lange boutiques and allocating two to each of them would equate to demand exceeding supply. The 1815 ultra thin honey gold was limited to 175 pieces yet they all sold out within less than a few days irrespective of the relative...

37mm or 38mm

 By: sham1 : December 8th, 2020-15:41
and I would be buying one. Fortunately, it is 40mm

This will be a good test of the effects of COVID-19...

 By: CR : December 8th, 2020-07:37
It seems like there's much more high-end watch activity in the past 6-8 months, with COVID-19, since people with money aren't spending it on anything else and are sitting in front of their computers more than usual. We've seen this with other brands (such...

Either bigger the movement or smaller the case

 By: piccolochimico (aka dsgalaxy1) : December 8th, 2020-00:32
It's a relief being not the only who has thought the same 😅 Everything is perfect until you flip the watch upside down. Then the magic is lost 🙄

Agreed!

 By: sham1 : December 8th, 2020-00:49
I managed to get the 38mm 1815 ultra thin honey gold and that is about the right. size Not sure why Lange went for 40mm apart from the fact that they are able to charge more than the 40mm Saxonia thin but there is little doubt that all 50 will find owners...

Yes, I had this reaction to other previous Langes...

Here are the casebacks of two 1815 Moonphases. The movements are the same diameter, but the case diameters are different: The 212.050 (left) is 37.4mm, and the 231.031 (right) is 35.9mm. The ratio of metal caseback rim to sapphire glass is perfect for the...

It’s only 1mm larger than the blue copper dial and both have the same thickness of 6,2 mm

 By: George Gently : December 7th, 2020-23:08
It’s priced € 2.000 more than the blue copper version; 1 mm of gold=€ 2.000 🤨

Lovely piece

I must see it in real life. This is on my wishlist now.

with long thin indexes, larger the dial is better is the overall look

 By: patrickh : December 8th, 2020-00:34
It is more obvious when you put 38, 39 & 40mm cases with a stone dial (aventurine=gold flux) together. What I like the most here is their Tuxedo black alligator strap without stiches ;-)

photo of the back on their web-site

 By: patrickh : December 8th, 2020-00:44
not bad at all ...

Agreed

 By: sham1 : December 8th, 2020-00:51
but only due to the movement finishing. A smaller bezel would show off the movement even better in my opinion.,

Yes the dial is more important than the back

 By: sham1 : December 8th, 2020-05:12
but at this price, it would be nice of both front and back were beyond reproach.

My very small collection Patrick

 By: sham1 : December 8th, 2020-15:10
must be attractive on the dial side and also have a movement that is well finished and fills up the case back. And when I say 'my very small collection', I am not being modest at all as I have decided to weed out my watches including almost every Patek an...

impressive move. What are your five favorites?

 By: patrickh : December 8th, 2020-22:32
pm if prefered to stay private.

The first four I already have with me so that is easy

 By: sham1 : December 8th, 2020-22:59
The Lang & Heyne Friedrich III, the Glashutte Original Senator Excellence with a black dial, the piece unique Moritz Grossmann and my Patek 7200R London Edition. So I have a spot for one more - either the Gronefeld Remontoire coming in next year or th...

2 and 3 handers.

 By: patrickh : December 8th, 2020-23:06
I am in the same spirit as 3 handers are my favorite these days. Seconds hand gives more life to the dial. Love your Lang & Heyne with their rose golden hands.

Thank you Patrick!

 By: sham1 : December 8th, 2020-23:30
The Lang & Heyne is for me the perfect 3 handed watch with a movement that fills up the case back. A hidden gem and great value if one equates price to movement finishing.

i just found this awesome photo on their web-site for the RG version

 By: patrickh : December 9th, 2020-02:38
Is it the same on your WG version? ...

Yes that is exactly the same movement on my watch

 By: sham1 : December 9th, 2020-05:06
which incidentally is in stainless steel!

What a beauty 😉

 By: holdemchamp1225 : December 9th, 2020-05:11

I am confident that in real life on wrist most will change their mind about the size ;-)

 By: patrickh : December 8th, 2020-09:18
For a Tuxedo watch with stone dial (aventurine in black in this case), larger the dial is with minimalist indexes volume better the result is, If you saw Jaquet Droz models in different size (39mm & 43mm) you know what I mean.

I was referring to the movement.

 By: vitalsigns : December 8th, 2020-10:32
But still not sure about the overall diameter of the watch. Proof is in the seeing, of course. Black dials always appear smaller. I look forward to seeing some live pictures, but probably won't have a chance to see it in person.

That is for sure!

 By: vitalsigns : December 8th, 2020-10:38

Agree about the proportions

 By: JTCL : December 8th, 2020-02:58
Lange 1 had perfect proportions, don't fix it if it ain't broken!

Splendid!

These dials may be difficult to make to Lange's spec...

 By: CR : December 8th, 2020-07:23
I recall hearing that Lange experienced issues with the 205.086 dial production (the blue "copper"/aventurine/goldstone dials) several years ago. I heard that they weren't able to make as many of these (or perhaps make them as quickly) as hoped, and so pr...

As I said in the other thread,

 By: moc : December 11th, 2020-00:30
I wish it was platinum case as a strong contender for dress watch of the year... I would have considered it for sure. Mo

Agreed on the platinum.

 By: amanico : December 11th, 2020-06:10

I heard from my local Lange boutique

 By: singingbee : December 17th, 2020-23:15
The 50 pieces worldwide are all accounted for already.

I personally prefer this over

 By: singingbee : December 17th, 2020-23:17
The blue aventurine model two years ago. That piece although gorgeous, the actual piece is abit too feminine for me.
