Accoring to the Lange Boutique it could well be the result of a mistake during assembly: the watchmaker took the hand for the second counter for the minute counter, too - it is the same hand. Nice detail: during a factory service Lange&Söhne did not change the "wrong" hand based on my request.

It looks like the wanted to align the 'B' in 'Base' with...
...the '400' and then ran out of room at '240.' The solution would be to to make the text smaller or condense it a bit. I think it adds some charm : )
Also the font along the chrono subdials is fatter vs the later "meters" dial..
I have a "meter" dial datograph as you know and it will be the watch that will be on my wrist when the good Lord eventually takes me.

One of my favorite watches as well.
I too would have liked to have acquired mine before the recent price surge. Not sure that this one is due to price manipulation, but more so a much deserved recognition of the watch's significance.
