Well, when Lange 1, than it must be in yellow gold, at least the FIRST one. Than could come the others! 
It is very hard to understand, how could be a model still the same after more than 20 years: sober, timeless, modern and classical.

I prefer the original model and movement as well. Your date change sounds normal -- takes about 30 minutes and happens around midnight. No difficulties. I actually enjoy witnessing that process.
