So my friend and I swapped two very nice Lange’s a week ago. I had the opportunity to wear his Datograph and he had my 1815 Chrono for the last week. After wearing the Datograph the last seven days my thoughts at the end of the week are a little different...

If I remember correctly you went with the 1815 Chrono as well. Tony

And Lange should be so encouraged to make an 1815 Chrono with all black dial! I think the 1815 Chrono is more an acquired taste than the Dato. It is perhaps more natural to gravitate to the iconic Dato. And it does not help the 1815 that it doesn't photog... 

Having owned three Dato's and three Chrono's (hey, I'm a slow learner) I ultimately chose the WG Chrono. As Tahoeblue stated, pictures just don't capture the depth of the old model Chono's dial.

Its looks like you considered quite a few different options. Having them all laid out like that is/was really helpful I'm sure, the wg 1815 chrono really stands out in all of those photos. Although I am a little biased of course! Tony

I struggled with this one too. In the end I felt drawn to the simpler 1815 Chrono. I reasoned I could wear it "under the radar" more easily than the Dato - with jeans or with a business suit. (Today wore it under a comfy old blue plaid shirt and no one no...

I remember getting 1815 CHR as my second Lange.... Then I got Dato. LIke you, I am a big sucker for Date and Datograph was the natural "evolution", but then again, I have let it go. A bit too thick and top heavy. Maybe I should re-visit 1815 CHR (the old ... 

Maybe you should try the rg version this time. I had that one on as well and really like it too. Would you try one of the new models? Tony

... despite that I own only white metal watches. Might be a good change. Nah, comparing to those past historical models, the new models don't do much to me including the new 1815 CHR. I am a very old man But, I kinda like Daymatik, which was bashed a few ...

Thank you for such an informative write-up! Many people must be in exactly the same boat! I'm also thinking if it's ever time to buy another Lange, it'll be between these 2. I had leaned toward both sides during different times, and still is very much und...

A great post giving the reader excellent insight into the thought-process that led to your decision. An important part of your commentary (for me) were your thoughts on the subject of weight...and particularly how using platinum impacted your view of the ... 

I happen to think the Richard Lange looks best in rg although maybe thats because I own so many white color metal watches. Just like anything else, you get used to the extra weight of platinum. Its not that much heavier than a rg, yg, or wg version Lange ... 

and yes, the Dato DOES look great with these other to, doesn' it ? Best Andreas

This question was coming very often with the previous version of the 1815 chronograph, less now I believe due to the very sober design of the new one. Fr.Xavier

Now if I could only get my photos to look as good as yours! On another note, do you think the new 1815 chrono's are not going to be as popular? I kind of liked how they looked when I saw them in person. I still like the old dial better but the new version... 

They are very different watches as you know: the new one is very elegant, very sober, the old one has more character. As I often say, many times the character of a watch can be found in the flaws: the small counters, the pulsometric scale which occupies a... 

I didn't realize only 300 or so were made but I guess that makes sense since the older version was only in production for 4 years. I do believe that many more WG versions of this watch were produced as I hardly ever see the RG version which is very nice a... 

I had both the dato and 1815 chrono, but I sold the dato, choosing to keep the 1815 chrono. Much debate over the years...blah blah blah, a lot of your observations I agree, but I do not think the dato is "overweight" and it seats quite nicely on the wrist... 

well.... at least in my opinion.... I also considered the datograph.... but felt a bit award on my wrist... The chrono is supeb.... Enjoy it.... Cheers

Sorry I'm late to this fabulous review! Did anyone find the scales on each watch more or less useful for time-keeping purposes? It appears the 1815 is like a doctor's watch and the Datograph is a tachymeter. Given each chronograph's sweep second hand make... 

...just blows me away. They look like they stepped out of a museum.

I have an Up & Down - my only Lange (to date). I've been wanting the 1815 Chrono, but a dealer tells me from a collectors standpoint it is better to go with the Date-O-Graph. Of course, $20K lays into this decision too. I am also looking at a Sax-o-Ma... 

... I am in the process of trying to decide between these two beautiful watches. So finding this review was very timely for me, even if my response is not! Was looking at them in NYC last week, but didn't find both at the same AD. The pulsations scale is ...
