A. Lange & Söhne

This will be my first "major" time piece purchase so I thought it prudent to get expert yet real owner views on it. I basically narrowed to the datograph due to the following: 1. Lange manufactures its own movement 2. See through back. 3. I want a good hi... 

The mian point is that you'd better go to an AD and try it on your wrist. And then, you'll know if the Dato is for you, or not. Well, while typing thses few words, I'm pretty sure that you will love it! For me, the Dato bis one of the nicest Chrono ever m... 

... try it on at the AD which is why I'm really looking into this now. It did cause a pleasant stir the minute I out it on. The only thing is I'd probably order a clasp strap (proper term?). Your definition of reference?

I'd jump on it! As for the buckle, I'd take the simpler one, not the folding one, too expensive in platinum... And more, I prefer the simple buckle in this kind of watches. My 2 cents. Best! Nicolas

My only regret is that I didn't buy several years ago. A truly magnificent timepiece. Mine is platinum, although I searched for the PISA version, those are truly a "grail." The only bad thing I've heard some people say about the Dato is that they wish it ...  

I know Platinum costs much more but I'm considering the RG as well as I do not have one with an RG casing yet. Trouble is, I don;t want to make a "mistake" at this level ($). I will go to the AD to put both in my wrist but wanted to hear your thoughts on ... 

I prefer the more classical look of the silver dial. I think it is more versatile/wearable. That it is less expensive is only a bonus. Bill...

First off, thanks all for your thoughts and for all the pics so far. Very much appreciated. Can anyone share what the list price of the platinum and RG Datograph flyback is in your area or country. I do travel every now and then and if the price and disco... 

50 300 Euros, but you can detax it, so it's ...16% less the retail, and maybe a small discount... Yep, it's a pricey Cult watch...But it's worth it! best. Nicolas

You know, the kind of discount an AD can make to make you happy, but protecting at the same time the brand he sells... You have to know that the Dato is not a massive production watch, and that all serious AD know it... So you wil have a small discount so... 

Was just curious that when a list of "the best" chronos made, the lange 1815 chrono was not mentioned. Is there a huge difference in the quality?

You're absolutely rhight to mention the 1815 Chrono, and I know here some big fans of this watch, as, for example, Foversta, who is an happy owner. This is quite the same movement ( only the date misses ), but the finish is exactly the same and finally, i... 

What comes with a new dato apart frm papers and manual? Does it come in a nice fancy wood box like the GO? Loupe? Reason I ask is I'll most likely be flying to another country to buy this when I am ready and I jus want to make sure I get everything it is ...

The box looks very nice as well and fitting of the Datograph! The writing on the waranty booklet is from Lange themselves or the AD? Nice touch regardless.
