I have small wrists (16cm/6.25”) so there’s no getting away from the fact that smaller watches tend to look better on me.
That is only amplified by the fact that I am most “into” dress watches, of all types - which also tend to look better smaller (IMHO). It is rare for me to go for something at - or certainly *over* - 40mm.
Yet even for me, the idea (let alone the execution) of buying the ALS Arkade came as an initial surprise and took a while to ferment and come to fruition. A watch that is 29mm long - and only 22mm wide - is small, whichever way you cut it. It’s 9mm thickness helps - it doesn’t look too dainty as a result - but it took me a bit of time to get myself to the point where a case size that starts with a 2 was acceptable.

But I am glad it was. It is now a watch that I wear constantly - not just for the formal occasions for which I initially bought it but also with jeans and sweatshirts, as the mood takes me. It is undeniably small - but makes a welcome change from the larger pieces - like my Breguet 5817 - that I wear at other times.

Although it was launched as a women’s watch by Lange at the brand’s relaunch, I have never seen it as such, other than the size - there’s nothing about it that screams “feminine” (or not more so than other watches). It is a welcome change of pace and of approach - but with the familiar Lange big date, exemplary finishing and beautiful movement. All in all, a fun piece.
