I belief I might know that spot you’re talking about. Been there.
These aren’t really high but the tricky part is that’s its very fine thin sand. Walk barefoot (not advised the same is burning your feet) and at certain spots you suddenly sink in it till your ankles.
The hills change with the wind as well. But it does call for magnificent views

There are a stretch of dunes in Death Valley that look like this Sahara…I was out there on an advertising shoot and was amazed at how huge the dunes really are…I grew up on the east coast where they are six feet high…the ones out west are ten times as big...

I know that if there are big cactus plants (of a specific type) in the desert, then it's most likely from Mexico or Southern USA. As the cactus I'm thinking of doesn't grow naturally elsewhere.
