Should I trade up?
Jan 10, 2020,11:29 AM
Hi guys,
Following a recent post from a fellow user I started to think about my own 5712 and what to do in the current ‘climate’.
A few things:
1. I am and for the foreseeable future want to remain a 2 watch guy
2. I already have a 5167a
3. Each watch has to be different e.g. I do not want 5711 as I consider it and 5167a both as ‘simple’ watches - thus a thought of going for a complication
4. Has to be a Nautilus as well
With that in mind - 5990? What is the average waiting time going around for someone already with purchase history with the Salon?
Let me know your thoughts!

Swapping the 5712 for a 5990 would not be trading up in my perception. You'd lose a piece that effortlessly displays class for one that screams power way too loud - for me anyway. If anything I'd shoot for a 5740 if you want to lose the 5712 for another N...
It's a very personal decision

I perfectly understand your temptation... 😉 To me, 5167 & 5712 make an almost perfect 2-watch collection. At least, considering the way I wear watches. You have two very versatile watches that you can wear daily. One sportier and another dressier, one on ...
Agreed

Keep the 5712. I’m a fan of the cal 240... The 5167 is the ‘boring’ one here! And I’ve never liked the date window. But the 5164 is much more interesting and to my eyes has a more balanced dial. Best E.
Agree with it as well

The 5164 is interesting with a very useful complication as well. Keep the 5712!
The 5712 and 5990 are two quite different watches

Apart from the obvious difference in the functions they provide. the 5712 is a lot lighter and thinner and if you are accustomed to that, you would find watches like the 5990 or even the 5980 pretty heavy especially if worn for a prolonged period of time....
