I am late...Some Tag Heuer V4 pics

Haha...I met V4 finally! Don't talk too much...letz these pic tell you!
Yup...my hand again...and V4
Getting closer
The case have a very fine finishing... The sapphire crystal was cut to fit the shape of monaco case.
Let get closer on the most amazing part of V4. Mirco-belt are everwhere for transmitting energy between wheels. Tag use Femto laser to shape this mirco-belt with extremely small tolerance!
The sand-polished blued hand is a second hand. It connects to escapement with an intermediate wheel (right) and 3rd wheel (bottom)
This is how this intermediate wheel connecting with escapement wheel
Belts and wheels
V4 is very Photogenic...LOL
Back to technical stuff... A liner winding system with belt. I forgot which directions of the mass falling to, will wind up left / right main barrel modules. But one direction of mass movement will wind up one of the modules. Since the mass have to move backwards and forwards, the degree of winding in 2 modules must be the same when the mass is in middle.
4 barrels in 2 modules, symmetric design. The berrels is not parallel to the case, I feel it just like some pistons on engine!
The energy form barrels transfer to the dial with a coaxial trains on left and right. They are sharing the power with a bigger wheel between these 2 trains. This bigger wheel should be the central wheel as usual watch. And 4 barrels can release their energy at same rate.
But how can 2 non parallet wheel can interact with each other?
Answer is a wheel with special tooth. As you see in the pic, the train coaxial with barrel is tilted. Therefore the train were designed with a bottom-widened tooth, in order to get a largest contact with the intermediate wheel.
This pic tells you how they interact with each other as well! The intermediate wheel is a smaller wheel between tilted wheel and big central wheel.
Thanks for watching! Btw..... Is there any reason a technical innovative photo is photogenic???

What an amazing piece of technical craftsmanship. Do we know how long the belts should last for, under normal wear & tear? Or are they like a cars timing belt and require replacing after so many hours of work!
Have to ask TAG...

IMHO, I think the tension in the belt is not very high, and the belt is soft enough to avoid wear & tear. But this watch must keep out from sunlight and UV which age most of the synthetic rubber.
Excellent detail photos, Ogygia

...which lead to a question: Do you know why they've tilted the axis of the barrels? I can't see any reason to do so, beyond perhaps, packaging or maybe it's just aethetics to continue the Automotive theme.
The name of V4 came from engine...

NO. of piston=No. of barrel=V no. In engine, pistons are tilted for technical reason. For TAG V4...I agree with you! aesthetic reason
Thanks for a detailed .....

report on the V4,including some amazing pics. .I do have to admit my limited understanding of the technical aspects of the watch but should one be concerned about the lifespan of the belts and whether they require any regular adjustments or replacement? I...
Superb details!

A true collectors item. Love it, technically and aesthetically. Would love to have seen the final product with the spectacular look of the first prototype with those big belts and with the more industrial look. Anyway, love it. Thanks for sharing. Vte

definitely the TAG that everybody look closely. I wonder if the time is precision enough? will this technology help improving or just aesthetically nice? and the belt is also interesting debate over long term. but your pictures are very nice, thanks for s...

THis was a great report (your photography skills are remarkable). Obviously an unusual and interesting watch. I've always had some interest in watches with unusual movements and displays, from simple stuff like retrograde second hands that are fun to watc...
Regular production piece?
By: bjundt : March 30th, 2011-10:57
Ogygia, do you know anything about the V4 becoming a regular production piece? My AD said that it would be available in May.
