I think lack of moon phase helps with the simplicity. As for balance, yes, the year aperture is balanced. But if we talk of balance, then what of the date window?

As for the JLC, regardless of year, it remains beautiful, esp with black dial in ss. Maybe symmetry is not always the best - sometimes lack thereof contributes to visual interest. The real question becomes when is it good, and when is it not, ha ha!
