Officially, they say 3 to 5 years

However, I personally wouldn't find 4 years normal for such a problem. A watchmaker can certainly see something else but otherwise I would try to ask for a free fix (if done by local watchmaker especially). The problem is that they won't open a 4 year old watch just to fix the date (oiling?) and close it. They will make an overhaul and I think that it would make sence. Hence, I would ask for something else (polishing, a little rebate, free strap for another watch?).
Of course it depends on how a watch has been used and especially if the date has been set in the right zone (thus not between 9 pm and 1 am).
About the period when we don't use our watches, I don't think that oils dry very fast (at least not in the 3 or 4 first years, just my own guess). My 5712 remains for periods from 2 to several months in the safe and I never had any issues with it (though it is not the same date display as the 324 caliber's).
No problem for me not to leave them not running for a while. If all the 324's date had this problem after a long rest, I think we would have heard of it.
That's why I would think your problem doesn't look normal if it has been used properly.
But that's just my opinion and how I would do if it was mine of course.
Best, Mark
