NEW Directives from Patek
Jun 26, 2017,08:52 AM
Saw this post from another forum regarding new Patek timepieces sold by ADs...maybe this forum has stirred up some change with Patek after all!
Post from a member on another forum regarding Patek:
"Earlier
on today I was having a chat with an AD and they informed me that
yesterday (23rd June 2017) they received an email from Patek Philippe
which had a letter attached to it. Below are details of what the actual
email said, not the letter.
Dear Owners, Directors and Managers of Patek Philippe Retailers in the UK and Ireland,
Please find attached a letter with a new directive from Patek Philippe Geneva.
The brown shipping boxes which protect our watches must now be opened
and destroyed before any Patek Philippe watch leaves the store. These
boxes are for shipping from the factory to the point of sale only and
from now, must not be given to the customer. In addition, the plastic
seal around the watch must be opened.
Please will you ensure that all staff in your store(s) are informed
about this new procedure which is mandatory for every Patek Philippe
watch sale and confirm back to me in writing that this has been
implemented.
Many thanks for your support in enforcing this this new procedure immediately.
Best regards,
At the request of the dealer, I have removed details of the person who signed and sent the letter.
There was further mention that this policy was to be implemented
immediately and certainly by the 1st of July. And that any watches found
in the brown box after this date would be viewed as a "Fault"
I take it from this that any Patek Philippe watch found for sale double
sealed, such as on Chrono24, would result in action being taken against
the AD who initially sold the watch
The letter mentioned why this measure was to be implemented, saying
that, Patek Philippe goal was for their clients to purchase their
timepieces. And that they always strived to prevent the grey market
activities, which completes unfairly with their Authorised Dealers
I am personally all for it and hopefully it will help towards stopping
the grey dealers charging such high prices. Though I appreciate that
this will only go a small way to preventing the high prices that we see.
As most of the watches that we see are already pre owned. But at least
it is a start.
I can imagine that this new policy may place some AD's in a difficult
position, when dealing with their large customers, who insist on having
their new timepieces double sealed, so that they can be placed in the
safes/bank vaults with all the other unopened Patek Philippe boxes."

In real life it's much more interesting. Solution: get one and keep it on your wrist. A Master Watchmaker of Pated placed my watch under microscope and showed the picture on a big screen. At the same time he explained the new Advanced Research inventions ...
Wow!!!

Great wristshot kari!! You are really one lucky chap to get the new and hard to get models. ) congrats on your new acquisition. Aron
Just iPhone photos.

There can be many opinions about the looks but the biggest development is well hidden. The watch might be nice from outside but inside it's stunning! Best, Kari

I must admit I'm so very well taken care of. On the other hand I have bought more than just one watch during the last years. Best, Kari
Congratulations Kari,

The 5650 is an interesting piece for many reasons as has been outlined in previous threads. It's also interesting to note how soon after Basel this watch is in the hands of owners. A possible indication of excess production capacity, allowing for early as...
Excess production capacity?
By: Baron - Mr Red : May 26th, 2017-00:34
Not sure how that would be? This is a limited edition of 500 that has been in the planning for years. The last AR watch was several years ago. Seems plausible to me that they have the 500 produced already as it's not an ongoing production. For a limited e...
I agree Joe
By: dr.kol : May 27th, 2017-14:00
Probably all 500 were manufactured some time ago and they are all allocated by now. Best, Kari
and in a situation where.....

...the producer knows exactly how many will be produced ( a defined limited edition of 500) and exactly when sales will be made (Basel+.....and demand for this one is apparently 5-10 times greater than supply), I think excess capacity is most unlikely. Li...

Handsome looking watch...looks really cool! I just need to get used to the cut-out portion in the dial... I know why its there...just need to get used to of it. Congrats once again!!!
Congratulations Kari
By: Mark in Paris : May 26th, 2017-11:20
I've tried it and it is definitely a great model. One of the best example of "it has to be seen in the metal to understand how good it looks". I've prepared a post about the 5650G and both innovations from this watch are much more than what people may thi...
Mark; you said it well.

Patek 5650G is much more we can understand. It's a step towards to future. Best Kari

just a simple misunderstanding it seems. Still not clear the relevance to your watch, but not really that important. Enjoy your latest.

I am not of a fan of partially cut away dials. This one especially has no balance, symmetry or flow to me.,

By: uaewatchguy : May 31st, 2017-11:47
Hi Kari or anyone else Who ever had the privilege of viewing these two watches can u confirm if the blue straps and blue on the dials is the same or are they different between the two watches ? Iqbal
I didn't put them side by side but it seemed to me they were the same.
By: Mark in Paris : May 31st, 2017-13:26
Because of the 5168G's cleaner dial, this one maybe looks a little lighter but I think it is the same color. It definitely works very well in blue, especially with the white gold's light and color compared to steel. I hope this helps. Best, Mark

Hi Mark Thnx buddy Since it doesn't look promising for me to get a 5650G from one an AD or salon I may settle for the 5168g Iqbal
Kari. You're the man.

I think it is for good. In fact, at first, the watches should never have been sold in their burgundy travel box from Patek Philippe's policy. Some retailers created the problem and people looking for reselling with a profit (without wearing the watch) app...
Nice to know someone was listening at Patek
By: Patekfinity : June 26th, 2017-10:43
It is refreshing that someone at Patek finally woke up to the fact that these pictures of the "brown" boxed limited edition Pateks are all over secondary grey markets. I concur with Mark that this issue hits harder on those limited edition pieces where av...
Patek has passed a circular letter again to their AD about the issue.
By: dr.kol : June 26th, 2017-11:19
However, the rules have been the same for a longer time: boxes and plastic bags must be opened. Think about corruption: it's prohibited everywhere and still it's common in big part of the world... I am sure that Pated is very serious with this issue but t...

Probably possible.

V.I. Lenin said: "Trust is good but control is better". I'm not a fan of Lenin's thinking and thus, I think Patek should be able to trust their AD. It would be easy to say: "If an AD is caught from selling watches in travel packages, the dealership will b...

By: beejo : June 26th, 2017-16:59
Should have been reconsidered a LOOOOONG time ago.I believe Patek should trust ADs when they are trust worthy through clean history,Otherwise they should be under the microscope. I had evidence the AD was playing dirty games,Selling rare watches for doubl...

Allocations
By: Mark in Paris : June 26th, 2017-12:57
Whether the watch is in the travel box or sold opened won't change really the allocation process and the client they will sell it to. It just changes the small premium that was added to the price. If the client buys for investing he will still get it and ...
I'm afraid I don't really understand this.
By: Chimaera : June 26th, 2017-13:31
PPs are not distributed to the market at large. Authorised dealer means something, and with it comes a responsibility. If PP wanted to stamp this out, a "3 strikes" policy would do it - 3 watches found in the wild "double sealed" and you lose your AD stat...
I agree.
By: dr.kol : June 26th, 2017-13:48
But at the moment the manufacturers are having bigger issues to tackle. Best, Kari
Do you think
By: beejo : June 26th, 2017-18:11
They have a a big problem tackling,Or it's not a priority vs. volumes sold by an AD? Best, Ahmed
I would of course be tempted to say the same
By: Mark in Paris : June 26th, 2017-14:16
but I must say that in some parts of the world, the ADs are the ones that have the client assets. Hence, it is very hard to unlist an AD and create something from scratch or try to open a deal with a new existing AD that is not as known and famous among t...
Mark.....my guess is that....
By: Baron - Mr Red : June 27th, 2017-08:00
.....they would only need to do it to one AD for the others to fall into line quickly. If they make an example of one, then that would send a very clear signal. Others would fall into line and Patek Philippe would not lose its ADs......well, just one!
Nice idea.
By: dr.kol : June 27th, 2017-08:18
But I know that the AD network has been cut heavily and e.g. in Finland there's not anymore a Pated AD. The previous one who was very tricky sold Pated like hot cakes. Best, Kari
That's a possibility indeed
By: Mark in Paris : June 27th, 2017-10:45
even if big ones would also know that Patek would hesitate for significant retailers. But that could work indeed. Best, Mark

By: Mark in Paris : June 27th, 2017-05:59

But as passionate people we can also opt to "stay" and shape the evolution of the brand, which listens to its customers. The people I'd like to see move on to something else is the speculators that have no long term interest in the brand. Having said this...
