Today was apparently the day that I was to purchase my first Connie! I was not particularly seeking this watch, but it stood out clearly in the window display that I happened to come across in a city far away from home. I have for a long time been of the opinion that a nice connie can fit gracefully into any collection (and is even very suitable to start a collection) and I was immediately charmed by the chocolate patina dial.
The condition of this one is excellent! there is no signs of polishing on the case. From the condition of horns, steps on the bezel, the edges on the case back as well as the observatory emblem the watch appears to have spent a considerable part of its life tucked away (alas not in its box which was not included).
I know that the world of Constellations are one of many references and numerous correct variations over a narrow theme - and also one of many repainted dials, mix of hands and dials, frankenwatches and worse. And still I jumped on this one without consulting you guys and poring over countless posts on various fora. I know from previous threads that I should be cautious when seeing a black dial in good condition after more than 40 years, but in this case everything including the caliber 501 is in pristine condition. Further, I was not able to determine any inconsistencies in the features of the watch - BUT I am only a novice so here I am sticking my (and Connie's) neck out with a few pictures.
A few facts: Ref 2887, cal501, non-pie-pan black dial, gold non-lume dauphine hands, gold "diamond" markers, signed 10-edge crown, signed crystal, screw-in case back, observatory logo is the "simple" one with 3 large stars and 5 smaller and no stripes in the sky and no bricks on the building.
I would be curious to hear your expert input and comments!
