That case belongs with a cal 501. I have a Dennison cased cal 501, case ref 897914, date letterJ for 1958/9, movement number 16.4 million. These are big heavy cases (33g of 18kt). No doubt that a cal 501 went inside that case, but I've heard lot of reports about the cal 501 failing for some reason,
Also, look at the marker at 11 o'c, ( not touching minute track) vs arrow head markers at 5, 6 and 7 o'c ( touching minute track) - definately a redial. Glad you got out in one piece Cheers, paul
Of these,and I have one from 1944, but I cant recall ever seeing the 3 buttons protuding out of the case before. All the examples I've seen, the buttons are recessed - pls see picture below ( borrowed from internet). Is this a later model? Cheers, Paul
Are more than likely service marks - ie after every service, the watchmaker would put a code for his/her reference. Some put a date in, so its worth checking these marks under a loupe Cheers, paul
