Hi NIk

Also, look at the marker at 11 o'c, ( not touching minute track) vs arrow head markers at 5, 6 and 7 o'c ( touching minute track) - definately a redial.

Glad you got out in one piece

Cheers, paul

My first Connie...

 By: nikolaj : February 25th, 2013-10:21
Today was apparently the day that I was to purchase my first Connie! I was not particularly seeking this watch, but it stood out clearly in the window display that I happened to come across in a city far away from home. I have for a long time been of the ...

Well, I'm sure someone better than me will be along soon...

and give you a detailed response but from a quick look it seems like the dial has been repainted (the Constellation script isn't right and the MOY doesn't quite work) and the hands are too long. I'm not sure about the case back either. Cheers

Thanks for your views

I hear you on the constellation font.

I have the same problem, Nikolaj.

I crossed the way of several black Connies, but each time I wondered if it was good or not, and each time ( not that there were so many, but you got it...) I passed on them... If yours is all ok, then a huge bravo, and a huge envy from my side! ;) All the...

You can be quite a diplomat..

when you want to :D I guess that there are a few question marks on this one. But in any case, I find it a nice watch - it may not make it to the "100% authentic watch box", but I will treat it as such and a lesson learned. No big harm done. Thanks for you...

Only when I want. ;) [nt]

The picture of the movement is too small...

...to tell if it is a 24-jewel cal. 505 or a 19-jewel cal. 501. After re-reading Mondodec's blog posting on these, either movement may be correct. This was one of the last of the first generation Constellations. Here is what an original dial on these shou...

You have a point...

 By: nikolaj : February 26th, 2013-06:46
that it may be "stiched" together. I don't know why the movement pic comes out so small but it is definitely c501 and in very nice condition (as I could judge :)). The dial is not pie pan but the minute markers are printed in straight lines from hour mark...

I know that two does not make a crowd...

but here is another example (credit: alenciso on WN) with a dial like mine and also according to statement in the post where I found the pics has a cal501. Non-piepan with minute indexes in straight lines. Hands appear to be identical to mine in shape, ma...

There's nothing that really stands out in the way of . . .

. . . obvious problems, at least to my eyes, Nik. If this is a re-dial, it's very nicely done. Should be late '50s vintage by the 'ter' spelling of 'chronometer' - my September '57 model . . . . . . has 'tre'. Would like to see a few high-resolution macro...

Thanks Art

your black honeycomb dial is a true beauty and has etched its way into my mind. It never really leaves me :) Here are a couple of dial macros. As pointed out earlier in this post, the MOY is not spot on, but otherwise that part of the printing is very goo...

The dial is a repaint

The fonts are off overall and the printing is a bit too thick.

your are right

This also became clear to me - with some help :) Thanks

Request for education

Could you point to the problem with the font of the the printing on the upper part of the dial? I have noted that the MOY may be slightly off, but I must say that it appears to me that MOY differs with different dial designs (e.g. from Chronomet re to Chr...

So with the valuable help from this forum it became clear even to me that the dial was a reprint. That being established, I started questioning the entire watch - why would a watch with a case in such good condition need a repaint? I guess I could live wi...

Nice that your seller was ethical...

...and refunded your money. If that watch had been purchased at a very good price, it still would have been fun to wear, but if you want the real deal, best to move on. These threads are always educational.

My thoughts exactly, Snak

 By: nikolaj : February 27th, 2013-23:27
I actually hesitated between the refund and keeping it for fun wear with the looks of the gold arrowheads on the black/brown dial and a great movement (I enjoy the winding sound of the rotor on these c5xx). As I mentioned, had it only been for the repaint...

Yeah, that was a narrow escape :) But, in all honesty, I was never close to real harm. For sure, alignment of indexes seem to be an important parameter to evaluate. To be fair, I think that the 11 o'clock index and marker appear more out of line in the pi...
