I received a phone call from Montblanc a few days ago.

May 22, 2017,13:25 PM

Very nice girl on the phone, she works for the Montblanc eBoutique and obviously she was asked to call me.  For the record, I have been nothing but courteous to each person I have spoken to at Montblanc.  I know these girls are in a tough position to make the calls and not really know how to answer specific questions.  They are in no way to blame for Montblanc's lack of protocols and poorly designed service process.

The first piece of information - my watch is due back to me on July 28.  If that date holds, it will be 4 months + 1 week from when I sent it in.

The second topic was a question - do I want my watch polished free of charge as a concession for the process so far?   SIGH.... staying completely calm, I informed the girl I had already told Montblanc twice NOT to polish my watch a month ago (once over the phone, once with a document I signed and emailed back per their request).  So this request should be well on record - do not polish my watch!!!  The fact that they keep offering this service tells me they must have mangled it since receiving it.  Without doubt, I am sure they will polish my watch, despite my 3 times telling them no (and I reiterated it to the girl on the phone several more times before hanging up).

After declining that free service which I do not want and should not need, I was then offered a free strap.  I told the girl what I want is for my watch to be returned correctly.  Truthfully, I miss the watch.

I took the opportunity to discuss the return process.  After Switzerland is through, they will return it to Texas where the workers there will open the box, inspect the watch, run it for a week, etc.  This has me utterly nervous.  I do not have any faith in the workers at the Texas service center based on the experience so far.  I wish Montblanc will allow me to trust that the Swiss watchmaker will fix it and just send it back without needing Texas to test anything.  They should receive it and simply forward it along.

So, nothing new to hang my hat on here.  I was told by a fellow Purist about week ago that Davide Cerrato would be in touch with me, but so far he has not contacted me.

This is not going online and complaining, or trying to hurt a brand. My postings are simply to share my experiences with a brand we have a forum on. The scales are still heavy in the favor of positive MB postings. Believe me, nothing will be better than i...

So do I...

And soon, too. This has been taking long enough.

I know it, thanks Nico. And for your behind the scenes efforts... it is the thought that counts.

I was pleased to be in the 1858 club, very pleased. But if someone had to endure this mess, I don't mind being the one. I have many things in my life far more important than this watch, or any for that matter. God takes care of me.

+1

"I have many things in my life far more important than this watch, or any for that matter. God takes care of me." Thanks for the timely reminder! It's just a hobby, after all=)

So true that

A lot more important things in life to be thankful for and this one, while painful, is not worth losing sleep over. Sorry to hear of this ordeal you have to go through and I hope all ends well for you.

Thank you Richard. [nt]

I remind myself something similar every day I awake.

I love watches. They are a passion, a hobby, an interest, an escape, and also a daily companion. Surely I love our Community and the many friendships too. But the watches are still just things, beloved ones, but nothing we will take with us one day...

Fingers crossed for a happy ending

The watch is worth it you know

Yes, I know it.

And I am hoping for a happy ending, just sometimes the process has made me skeptical.

sorry about your trouble

That's all I can say

Michael, I cross my fingers that in turns out well for you...

... this kind of story happens all too often with almost all brands, kind of Murphy's law. I'm just afraid that those issues take away from one's excitement about a watch, you almost nervously wait for the next mishap. I sincerely hope you can enjoy this ...

Henrik, you have stated it perfectly.

You get it. In a perfect world, it comes back properly repaired and without any scratches or other new problems. And then maybe I could wear it without worry. That is a best case scenario.

Sigh...

Vacheron Constantin watches go through a similar process... Shudder... And they get reinspected in Dallas too when they return from Switzerland... Crossing my fingers that you get your watch back unpolished and unmangled. If it does come back mangled and/...

Thanks for the continued support Patrick.

Regardless of how this process of mine turns out, it speaks to a much bigger problem at Montblanc. I fell in love with this design so fast that I did not give a seconds thought to shelling out thousands of hard earned dollars for it. A new brand for me. B...

Maybe even a Furio! Thanks for the support Amigo.

You are wise not to accept the free polish.

I learnt my lesson the hard way when they freely polished off one of the hallmarks on one the lugs - with another Richemont brand. The watch went in in mint condition. I also understand your worry of having to pass through another set of hand(s) at the Te...

In sharing my process w/ the brand, I have read posts like yours and others have PM'd me.

 By: MichaelC : May 30th, 2017-07:12
It seems they do not always follow our requests. I am hopeful there is no polishing.

Fingers crossed Michael!!!

I think you know exactly what is going on. Offering free polish & free strap sound fishy for sure. As you said, watch could have been mis handled during the process & marks have been made and you know they are going to polish your watch to cover the track...

Thanks for your encouragement.

 By: MichaelC : May 30th, 2017-07:15
I have not given much consideration to the watch being returned perfectly repaired and in the same condition as when it was sent. Of course, this should be the first order for any brand. I guess that is much the reason for theses posts - there is just no ...

Hope all be back in expected condition soon...

I am so busy these days, I don't think about this watch much. Out of sight, out of mind. But it would be a dream to just get it back in proper condition...

This is like that 80's film....

'Never Ending Story'!!! I hope that you finally get it back and sorted... their service is not good enough and I told them to look at the thread a month or so ago when I met one of the guys from HQ! Cheers Andrew
