Spinning motors has become a classic in anglage and other applications. Lot of tools can be mounted and allow a tremendous gain of time.
But, this has a tendency to round up angles and étirages (on the flanks of the bridges) that are made with this tool are not really nice.
You also have the CNC machines for perlage, cotes...
Going a bit further in time, I'd point out abrasives improvements. These days, auto-adhesive abrasive papers are everywhere. The paper sticks easily, layer is thin, grit are perfectly controlled... Same with pastes.
Talking with a small independant watchmaker, he was telling me about the finishing he used to do some 20 years old back, with the traditional watchmaker eye loupe. It looks really nice from normal distance, but considering today's standards, when he sees his early watches coming back he is not so proud. The overall quality of the finishing drastically increased pushed by the quality of macro photography... Today, he's working with binocular only, very traditional methods, countless hours.. and the share of the cost taken by the finishing increased a lot.
