I think TYO expressed it very well. Nobody ever blames Rolex of Omega for taking an iconic model and giving a new spin on it. I think the original and also Tribute versions of the Polaris are stunning watches. I think the "core" Polaris is possibly one of teh most desirable JLC that one can own. It has something about it that is timeless. In the same way as the Submariner, the Polaris represents for me the iconoic JLC diving watch.
In this sense, if people were expecting JLC to re-invent the wheel, then there will be disappointment in the latest offerings. On the other hand, if we look at what is made, we see a new and interesting spin on what is an iconic diving watch. It is not meant to be groundbreaking in the same way that Rolex's SD4000 is not groundbreaking...it is a twist on an iconic theme. One cannot really compare the original and the twist in the same breath. Taken in this light, I find the new family fun and interesting with just the right type of twists.
Would i consider one?
That needs more thought.
