Since questions like this fall on deaf ears with my wife and most of my friend, I’ll ask you - what have you done when the unicorn piece you were not expecting appears but it will bust the bank and “disrupt” the collection a bit? I’ve started a collection... 

As long as you will cherish the watch and not regret (the money spent and watches sold / foregone).

Seems like a common problem we collectors face everyday. If I were in your shoes, I would ask myself 2 questions. Do I like the unicorn piece more than the other one in my collection of the same brand? If yes, sell the one in my collection and upgrade to ...

This seems to be a non often seen piece and so assuming everything makes sense in terms of price, condition etc then go for it. You mention one hesitation being that you already have a piece from this watchmaker, and your intention is to wide not deep, so...
