Opinions on Ochs and Junior?
Aug 15, 2011,17:38 PM
Hi All,
I'm obsessively thinking about my next acquisition (who isn't?), which will likely be my last for a very long time, giving the limited funding options. I have dreams of adding another independent to my stable, which currently consists of a JLC Dualmatic, MIH and custom Habring².
One of the directions I'm considering is toward an Ochs and Junior "Tinta Selene". Or is it "Selene Tinta"? Either way, I really love the implementation of the moon phase and its extreme accuracy. I also like the Oechslin-factor (as astronomical complication designer extraordinaire), and the transparency and honesty of the companies approach.
But I have concerns, of course. First, it uses a pedestrian movement (ETA 2824), and the finishing of the dial/hands/etc. is definitely industrial. Second, I worry that it's too similar to my MIH, and won't cover any real new ground in my small collection (I want to cover as much ground as possible with the few watches I have, and still have them be relatively affordable and wearable). Third, I'd rather it was the "Luna Mesa" complication (but those watches are absurdly priced).
At any rate, I call on the collective wisdom of those who have had the Ochs and Junior watches in hand, or know more than I do about these things. If I don't go with the O&J, I'll have to fish around for something like a used PSM, Sarpaneva (the K0 looks promising), or hold out for a Jutzi or Ressence to appear at the right time and price. Or maybe the Gronefelds will build a One Hertz for the people. Or I could order a jump-second full-calendar from the Habrings...Or maybe my money is better spent on something more mainstream and traditional...
Help!
Cheers,
Daniel
