Hublot: It all started with a bang. A Big Bang!

I recently met with a local enthusiast interested in purchasing his first Hublot. Since there was neither a boutique nor an AD within hundreds of miles, I packed up a few select pieces from my modest collection and we convened at a local establishment. It was great getting to share my passion for Hublot with someone so excited about the brand.

Shortly after our meeting, my friend decided on the most quintessential of all Hublots, a Big Bang Steel/Ceramic. All it took was a call to the AD and the iconic black box was delivered.

Though I missed the reveal, he later shared his new watch for this post.

I’ve been fortunate over the years in that I’ve had hands-on experience with many of the releases from Hublot. From Baselworld to boutiques to ADs and events throughout the US and Europe, I’ve seen a few.

My point is that despite all the pieces I’ve experienced, it was this model that put Hublot on the map. Hublot as most know it started with this model, the Big Bang steel/ceramic. This is the watch that put Hublot on the map.

It’s hard for me to imagine that this model is more than a decade old. In my opinion, this design is as unique, bold and contemporary as it ever was.  Its style hasn’t aged a bit.

My friend is quite pleased with his selection and even mentioned receiving several comments and compliments on his new watch. Love it or hate it, it’s a Big Bang, and you can’t ignore it.

This is, by far, my favorite Big Bang Classic. The carbon fiber styled dial makes the perfect backdrop for other elements.

The depth and finishing of the numerals and other features create an exciting dimensionality – a mesmerizing mix of black and steel with just a touch of red to hold your eye.

The clear case back ensures you don’t get board with this watch.  As with the dial side, there are always details to appreciate.

Finally, where the rubber meets the wrist, the Big Bang Classic really shines. The legendary rubber strap wraps softly around the skin. The proprietary material warms up to the skin and creates a delicate bond that prevents the watch from sliding around.

If one watch defines Hublot, this is it.

With several Hublots of my own, I feel a bit negligent that this one has yet to find its way into my collection. Spending some time with my buddy’s watch served to remind me how amazing this model is. Perhaps before I stray much further, I may find myself acquiring a Big Bang Steel/Ceramic for myself. After all, it's the one that started it all.

I have always kept my original Black Magic BB for the reason that it was one of the first and has a great meaning to me begin my first Hublot. I debated long and hard at the time of getting the steel/ceramic or the all ceramic, I am glad I went with my ch...

In fact, I like the original BB better then the revised BB Unico!

The Unico is even bolder, but in my opinion, it doesn\'t have to be. Bolder is not better if the original was bold enough! It is partly better balanced e.g with the rectangular pushers.
