Do they? Wasn’t aware of that. Certainly has more scope, but again may come down to the fact they can’t make a steel version cheap enough.

Then again, aside from movement decoration/finishing, what would AL&S’s differentiator be?
We can see what Patek has done with the 5522 compared to Zenith’s offering a couple of years previous – polished metal surrounds on the lumed numerals.

If Patek has the Nautilus and the Aquanaut, Audemars Piguet their Royal Oak, and Vacheron their Overseas isn't it high time Lange come out with their own Sports Luxury design? I know I would be very interested to see a watch like that. What would be a goo...
I agree, it could be really something...

with that robust German engineering and construction, a very cool watch. However coming up with a completely unique design DNA such as the Nautillus or Royal Oak is going to require some genius.
They did...

Dato on Platinum bracelet. And it was awesome. Cheers, Brandon
Could you not argue, however...

That before the AP RO and PP Nautilus, those firms didn't do much by way of steel watches either? Best E.
Agreed

Excellent post.
I will agree with that...

I am in the market for something akin to a RO or Nauti and for some reason cannot quite commit to the Overseas...the idea of a Lange model in this vein is very appealing to me, even if I can see that the brand DNA is unlikely to support such a piece. Best...
Clearly no

They don't want to open Pandora's box. Fx
Lange, in 2016, dropped production from over 6000 watches to around 5200.
By: TheMadDruid : July 18th, 2017-11:28
So they should have the capacity to go up a 1000 or so if they wanted to "mass" produce a sports watch. But they have never shown interest in such a thing. The pilot they made was done at the "request" of the German government then in power. Again, it was...
Right, there's some problematic history, to say the least

And the good points about the economic prospects. I mentioned a sports watch to the N.American head of ALS as a way to interest Americans in the brand. They are super into keeping their brand DNA, as they should be. So, likely not a thing that will happen...
So far it has been.
By: TheMadDruid : July 18th, 2017-15:28
Their current design cues, even something as offbeat as the Lange 1, are taken from their past pocket watch designs. Or from something iconic such as the Semper Oper building in Dresden. This could change in the future, but there are presently no plans to...
I think it would look like this.

... For me this one is the epitome of sport luxury, although I know it is mostly seen as a dress watch, for me too strong, bold and heavy to go with suit. My favourite watch as well. ...
Just an amazing design and watch from ALS...

Definitely one of my favorites but hope to see something like the Royal Oak and Offshore equivalent from ALS. But I see the point that they want to remain traditional and inspired by their past. My issue with that is will they be able to attract younger b...
You make a good point.
By: TheMadDruid : July 18th, 2017-16:22
So far this hasn't been a problem for Lange, but it could become one. I guess that they are hoping other brands will do the work of luring in the young and then they will grab the ones who become like us!

I may be one of the very few who hopes they do not go into the Steel sports watch market, as I believe it isn't what A. Lange & Sohne stand for in high end mechanical watchmaking. I'm actually very happy they haven't tried to be like all the other "Bl...
As always Tim you make excellent points so eloquently.
By: SALMANPK : July 20th, 2017-13:45
and as you say " I personally favor ALS over PP, VC & AP because of this commitment to exclusivity and technical & aesthetic brilliance that lovers of traditional high end watchmaking value and yearn for." for precisely these very reasons I would like to ...
I'm with Tim.

I think it's lazy over-reaching to have a brand that you exploit in all corners, despite it being so common in all sectors. I think long term brand equity is better developed by being precise and targeted. The trick is to keep the Brand ID and take the pr...
