Well, good news and bad on my purchase......
Oct 05, 2016,10:08 AM
First, the good: The watch arrived, boxes and some paperwork from Neiman Marcus, new and unused. Turns out, it was the steel model after all, and not the gold ;( Regardless, I purchased it for less than 40% of the MSRP (60% discount), so it was still a great deal.
The bad: it was obviously damaged; I believe by the ding in the lug, that it had probably been dropped onto one of the many marble floors in these retails stores. While the damage wasn't bad on the lug, I believe it must have hit at such an angle, with sufficient force, to screw up the movement. The rotor seemed to be 'off', the chrono wouldn't reset properly and I'm sure it was damaged.
The good and bad: they offered to try to source me another from another store, but weren't sure if there was another in the system.
The conclusion: I received a call the next day (this past Monday) to confirm that they couldn't source another and refunded my money. In the end, I wasn't really willing to risk having it fixed, especially when they (and I) wasn't sure that any of the factory warranty would even apply, and certainly in the case if it was dropped.
A little frustrated, I did source a brand new chrono that has had my eye along with the Chrono One, the JLC Master Compressor Chronograph II. While I'll keep my eye out for another Chrono One, and add one someday, they aren't exactly the easiest watches to find in steel.
Thanks everyone for your kind words and rooting for me: it was fun to take the chance, and glad I did; I just wish it turned out better!
Happy collecting and cheers!
(pics of the new watch, not the beloved Chrono One and I'm still a huge Chopard fan, but the JLC has a lot to love in my eyes and the fit/finish is superb!)
