There are more changes to the movement that you can't see
Jun 29, 2016,12:15 PM
It is true that the caliber 1150 began with Frederic Piguet in the era when it was commonly owned with Blancpain (and commonly managed as well). Since then Blancpain fully merged Piguet into Blancpain and has made so many major changes to the 1150 that it is effectively a new movement. Others have spotted the free sprung balance with inertial regulation and the silicium balance spiral. But there is more that is new. The anchor now has a silicium corne Moving to the opposite end of the gear train, the mainspring is now Elinflex (which can store more energy than pre-existing materials) and the wheels are copper beryllium which has superior wear characteristics compared to the traditional brass (and these are more expensive...but how many watch connoisseurs give even a moment of thought to the material used for the wheels???). When you add all these changes up, only the basic plate and bridge design carries over from the original Piguet movement.
