A gentleman‘s Blancpain timepiece and some more...
Feb 05, 2019,03:30 AM
Today I have the pleasure to share the results of my photo session with the Blancpain Villeret Grande Date Semainier 8 jours, ref 6637-3631-55 with calibre 3738G2 and some additional gentleman gear.
The Villeret Grande Date Semainier 8 Jours belongs to the family of Blancpain watches carrying the insignia of their Haute Horlogerie tradition: a white cambered Grand Feu enamel dial, an automatic eight day calibre with beautiful finishing and a reasonably sized rose gold case.
At 42mm diameter and 13.4mm height the watch fits almost every wrist size and is proportioned very well. The indications for the calendar functions are easily readable and at the same time use three different traditional ways of display: the large date is indicated in a double window above the 6 o’clock position, the day is displayed in a subdial next to the 9 o’clock position, indicated through a small heat blued hand, and the calendar week is displayed on the outer rim of the dial, indicated by a heat blued serpentine hand from the center.
Here are two macros that provide you with an idea on the amazing texture of the enamel dial with the small imperfections that are adding so much character , the embedded painted numerals and the hands. Note one of the two “secret” signatures between the roman VII and VIII:
Now let’s get closer to the case. The Villeret delivers visual and haptic harmony from each angle…
As you can see the Villeret Grande Date Semainier 8 jours uses the patented under-lug correctors for the day and calendar week indications, not only a very safe and comfortable way of adjusting the calendar but also an aesthetic solution that is more compelling than the usual pushers at the case sides. To round up the overview let’s take a look at calibre 3738G2:
After all those close ups it’s time to take a wider angle so you get an impression of this beautiful watch in different light settings:
To round up the appearance you have the opportunity to settle for a pair of Blancpain cufflinks that are based on the Villeret timepieces with Grand Feu enamel dial:
Together the Villeret Grande Date Semainier 8 Jours and the cufflinks create a very elegant yet stylish outfit, ideal for a gentleman and connoisseur:
I hope you enjoyed the report on this beautiful timepiece and the not so often covered matching cufflinks. Having spent a day with the Villeret Grande Date Semainier 8 Jours my conclusion is that it is a very legible and utterly beautiful timepiece with unusual complications and in so far a typical Blancpain. It is a watch that invites to be explored, offering a plentiful of details that are likely to bring pleasure for a lifetime.
Cheers
