Sadly the motorsport legend Dan Gurney passed away yesterday at the age of 86. His myriad claims to fame are difficult to summarise succinctly but let me try with the most famous moments. Four times F1 race winner and 18 times podium finisher made him one...

Certainly a very interesting character. I remember him featuring in Brock Yates’ book on Cannonball and the admiration BY showed for him A bit before my time to have seen him racing myself, unfortunately...

. . . over who was the best American driver; Mark, AJ and Bobby U would be on the short list, along with Mario and Phil. Still, it's tough to overcome Clark's quote about fearing only an oil patch and Gurney in his mirrors ;-) . . .
