They are not alone... (different approaches to same ends)
Cartier for example uses gold on the bracelet for the two-tone Cartier Clé only for every second link - thus, there is even less gold used in that watch. I personally have little issue as it also reduces weight (a bit) and takes away the soft gold from a very scratch prone position.
On an AP Royal Oak two-tone the gold is used throughout, but only on the small links thus the cost and weight effect is minimal.

I\'m also of the rather retiring kind, so the watch is somewhat too \'prominent\' for me, even if I find is really nice otherwise. The case is quite substantial from the pictures - does it wear large, too? I really like all the subtle detailing, too, like...
