The two watches presented on occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban cigar manufactory Cohiba consists of the 2 Pilot Type 20 pieces, an Extra Special Cohiba Maduro 5 Edition in a 45mm 18-carat rose
gold case (50 pieces) and a Chronograph Cohiba Maduro 5 Edition in
bronze (150 pieces). Both were already presented one month prior to BaselWorld (see here ), but BaselWorld was the first opportunity for me to photograph them:
First, the chronograph in bronze:

The dial is an aged patina dark element, with gold-plated and brushed hour and minute hands and a small seconds hand at 9
o’clock.

The solidly luminous hands hand equally golden frames. One (sic!) Cohiba logo only!

The caseback it crafted from titanium and adorned with an engraving of Cohiba’s “El
Laguito” historical factory - compare that to the normal café racer motif:
A welcome contrast to the bronze case, titanium gives a sober counterpoint. It is of course chosen for its anti-allergic properties and its total lack of skin irritation (bronze is different here).

Next, we have the Extra Special in solid 18 kt rose gold. This was the real surprise for me:

To my knowledge, this is the first time the 45 mm version comes in red gold, and this is a material which does the overall design only good, as it lends warmth and the specific golden shine to the piece:
In contrast to the chronograph, the back is also solid gold:

Indeed: red gold is the perfect case metal here!

Best,
Magnus
