Crown-left on the back side

 

is the same as crown-right on the dial side.


Even if you change wrists it is impossible to read the time from crown-left on the dial side unless are wearing something like a pilot watch where the crown is located at 09:00 instead of 03:00, as seen from the front.

This is more than a convention, since adjustments to the movement are done from the back. Still it's easy to be confused when reading timing tests.
