No, definetly not only just another model this Vacheron Constantin Métiers d'Art Villes Lumières.
The case size of 40 mm seems to be
normal for nowadays dress watches but in this case, for the purpose
to display some contemporary art, probably appropriate and necessary.
In these days where only the Moby Dick's are recognised, you would
not get any attention in the public or internet at all with a watch
in a suitable size, means which is able to withstand the ups and
downs of fashion taste.
The case with the integrated lugs seems not to be very outstanding – I always thought the lugs are at the core of the Vacheron & Constantin brand identity. Maybe they skip this together with the ampersand recently? But never the less, I would like to point out the display of outstanding art of the dial which over compensate this deficit, maybe it is even highlighting this central peace of art quite better – therefore you should accept it.

In my opinion the dial is the main reason to get one of those watches – maybe as fast as you can:
Remember this impression of the mankind's living quarters is a very recent and an up-to-date one, it involves some stunning beauty and shows also the vivid live on earth as well as the fragility of our time on a vital planet. It is fascinating because it's undetermined surface structure beside the determined maps bird view outlines, that in fact means - every watch is quite unique and a real peace of art not able to be reproduced.
The skeletonised dauphin hands are not for me and my taste, they looking flat and cheap. The hands in my opinion are also at the core of the brands identity – therefore they should grade them up to something nicer soon. If you can't wait, it's probably a good reason for your first contact to their bespoke services 'Atelier Cabinotiers'. Another point close to the brand identity is the used index ring – probably it was to difficult to apply 18K index markers – but in my opinion this would also make a great improvement to a lasting watch styling – there are plenty of outstanding examples of indexes in Vacheron's history, or invent a new style – the ring looks simply cheap and do not ease readability.
The Gentleman's choice: For a long term investment, wait for a smaller mid-size model (38 or even only 36 mm), show of is only for new money. But caution, maybe it will not occur that smaller models are on display and then you will miss this outstanding peace of beauty: despite critics, for sure a lasting V&C statement peace.
My choice would be the Geneva bird view, unless the bird view of my home town is not intended to be made.
