42 OH 42 :)

Hi Dan

Thanks for all these pics n info mate.It really helped to clear up my mind regarding these two n i think im going more towards the 42042 after reading and looking at ur pics.

Tonneau!!!! Nice, just makes the OS more unique n gives it another perspective to analyze n admire, but now that u mention it the tonneau shape i think i see it more prominently in the new overseas.

Thats a really nice 042 u got there, no scratches, fiting well on ur wrist and i think i didnt see any 042 s with arabic numerals so u got a rare piece there.Have u thought about puting leather strap on the chronograph, i had a 41mm chronogrph with metal bracelets didnt sit on my wrist comfortably n looked a bit out of place but when i changed to leather straps it sat better n looked a better fit.

There a reputable sellers out there but Finding a reputable seller  whose selling this oversea 042 is proving to be very difficult, just found one couple of hours ago selling an overseas  42042 with 40mm along with the 37mm. Does 40mm exist for 42042 or it might be a replica who knows.

Anyways hope i find the right OS soon, been surfing the web for 2 weeks now ( also do it sometimes during work at the office smile) so need to find one soon before this search for the elusive genuine near perfect condition OS gets me fired smile.

Kind regards
Arsenal

Can't decide between Vacheron overseas 42042 & 49140? Any advise?

Hello Guys I am trying do some research before buying my first vacheron, I basically narrowed it down to two models VCO 42042 (37mm) & 49140(40mm). I always thought the 37mm looked too small( although never got to try one in my wrist) but I am surprised (...

As the only way to get one of these watches is secondhand now....

you will have to be careful about how and who you purchase from. And as both references are retired, you will want to assume that the watch will need service in the very near term unless the owner has been good about that and has records of having it serv...

Take advantage of Bill's offer

There are very few people more knowledgeable about VC than our Moderator!

Hi Arsenal, here are my 2 cents

I have a 6.5 inch wrist and both Ref. 42042 and Ref. 49140. Like you, I also like these 1st Generation OS watches because they are smaller than their future generations. Did you know the the Overseas collection are Tonneau shapped watches? I didn't realiz...

The first Gen. OS watches do not have interchangeable straps & bracelets

That is a really nice feature of the OS, starting with the 2nd generation. The bracelet on the Gen. 1 watches is also not as nice as the newer bracelets with the Maltese cross theme. BR, Dan

Love that 042 Dan.

I usually am not drawn to the OS, but there are a couple exceptions, and your model is one of them! Arabics on blue are fantastic!

Thanks, this version was a LE of 75 pieces for North America

Our moderator, Bill, is the one that uncovered this information years after he initially bought his Overseas. I started searching for this one after learning about this, and Bill helped me track one down! (like many others here, we are grateful to Bill fo...

I was not aware of that practice, but I think it's great.

I love when businesses with an outstanding product march to their own drummer. And when they do it with discretion, that's even more outstanding. The whole philosophy of "don't you go the them, let them come to you". By the way, this forum is a great plac...

An official clarification about my statement

 By: dshao1 : July 12th, 2014-17:36
I went back and looked at my old VC catalogs, which has a letter stating the "24 models of any one design". That is from 1952, and I do not have hard evidence to show when this practice ended. Therefore I cannot say beyond a shadow of a doubt, that this p...

No need to apologize. And thanks for posting the catalog letter.
