The Sonata is quite unique

Jun 18, 2010,09:25 AM

As Nicolas has pointed out it sounds more like a repeater with measurable pauses between each strike. I own a JLC memovox and have heard others fairly compare it to a school bell. The Sonata is more of a ding... ding... ding. I do love my memovox but will say that the Sonata is in a class of its own.

Hi all, what do you think is the best alarm watch? I have been thinking to get Sonata, how do you compare Sonata with Breguet Reveil du Tsar, or JLC Amvox or any other alarm watch? how does each sound? please enlighten me. cheers, Ed

Alarm sounds are somehwat subjective

For instance, I don't like the buzzing sound of the PAM or Vulcan watches that I've heard. I've heard the Blancpain L'evolution alarm GMT and it sounds alright, but I preferred the sound of the JLC EWA, and purchased one. The EWA's alarm sound is very sim...

The Sonata is just U.N.C.O.M.P.A.R.A.B.L.E

It chimes like a minute repeater ( very melodious, not very loud yet ), it has the countdown alarm, the GMT, a Grande Date and the 24 hours Alarm. UNIQUE! Nothing can compare nor compete with the U.N Sonata, the only " bemol " being that if you want a ver...

thanks Nicolas,

I am still hunting one, difficult choice between Duometre or Sonata? what do you think, any advice. I have to wait till I go abroad but that's the passion of collecting, isnt it : )) cheers Eddy

IMHO, the Duometre is the most beautiful chronograph currently made ...

... and has no direct counterpart in UN's program. From a practical point of view, the Sonata makes more sense. But then, what has common sense to do with high-end mechanical timepieces?? Regards, Marcus

Yes....

thanks to our JLC Moderator Nicolas, posted many beautiful articles about it, I already got offer for Duometre, and really hard to find Sonata. BTW, Marcus, What is the difference about Sonata Silicium and The Cathedral? is the souds also different? i mor...

the sound is the same ...

... Since the changes in the Sonata Silicium affect only the escapement (and a view optical style elements), while the chime mechanism remains unchanged. Regards, Marcus

Really, you can't get wrong with the Sonata, it is the most unique and most practical of all mechanical wristwatch alarms, and its sound is a class of its own! Just don't forget to present it here when you got it! Regards, Marcus
