Walking Up & Down Mission Valley, Part 1

Hello again, we are out on the trail again today with a mix of sight and sounds (sorry, no sounds in the post).

We went past locked & unlocked gates, discovered hidden camps, talked our way in and out of trouble, saw planes, trains and automobiles plus birds, bugs, dogs, rabbits and so forth…
this post is the area marked WALK DOWN

A long-disused access road across the base of the hills but behind all the buildings provided us some room to walk.

This is a pretty fancy view of the BACK of an office building which is NORTH of our position. The photo below is ABOVE

and this is to our SOUTH. The brush piled in an obvious gap in the foliage is the camper’s way of closing the door to the campsite… I went through but didn’t disturb the sleepers and came right back out.

We saw some towering and gorgeous trees

but it doesn’t pay to just look UP as the DOWN can be interesting too.

Approaching 8 am we have been out here about 30 minutes.

Escargot anyone?

Got my first hummingbird photo of the day!

OK, we have reached the Western end of the trail where the highway comes down to the valley. We got off the dirt, back onto the frontage road, and took the sidewalk back.

We found flowers

Scary signs

Fog encroaching...

Interesting architecture

A few nosy birds singing their hearts out except when I aimed the camera their way.

There be dragons here too! We saw a preschool, a senior assisted living facility and a few occupied and many abandoned, err “AVAILABLE” office buildings.

When I was looking at the tree I saw the Alaska / Hawaii Airlines jet.

Back on the ground I missed a photo of a rabbit, caught a great shot of the dew and dove,

Found many dew-sparkled webs but saw no spiders.

Another Hummer scolded me as I crept along quietly

making sure I did not trample the mushrooms or step in the coyote poo.

We found evidence of visitors (hat, some clothing, etc)

Now we retraced our steps back to the truck.

Here’s a view NORTH from our position.

We made it!

At this point we started driving… and immediately came to a flowering tree! See last week’s post on Hanami.

If those dogs took off running ...

That’s about it except for the ancient truck

and the forelorn man walking an old tandem bicycle with a flat front tire.
